Koala Cherries is a family business involved in the production, packing, sales & marketing of fresh cherries. Established in 1944, located in Yarck, North Central Victoria, Koala Cherries is one of Australia’s leading cherry growers. We pick and pack fruit from all over Victoria. Our focus is flavour, quality, and freshness.
Koala Cherries are employing people for picking, packing and other various seasonal roles from November to January so if you’re looking to earn some money over Summer and you want to be a part of a great team, we’d like to hear from you.
Our Packhouse, which is in the beautiful township of Yarck, can operate 7 days a week all season. Experience isn’t necessary - we are looking for people who are reliable, have a great work ethic, positive attitude and willingness to learn. There are lots of hours available with above award pay rates.

A variety of jobs are available in the Packhouse including cherry sorting, scale operating and carton preparation.
This role requires experienced applicants to lead a large team on the packing line. Must be a great communicator, fast thinker, with effective time management and problem-solving skills. This is a great role for a person who can build positive, productive relationships whilst rolling their sleeves up to get the job done!
Grader Software Operators
There are two cherry grading machines in our Packhouse which require operators to run the grading software programs. Successful applicants will have excellent computer skills (advanced Excel). Any of the following skills would also be advantageous:
- Prior experience with any fresh produce grading software
- IT/Programming knowledge
- Great leadership and communication skills
Forklift Drivers (Packhouse and Orchards)
To apply for a forklift driver role you must be experienced, ideally in a warehouse/distribution role, obtain a current forklift licence, have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to stack pallets and fruit bins up to 4.3 metres high.
Quality Control Technicians - Packhouse and Orchards
Duties include testing and assessing cherries, identifying defects and communicating these to management and other staff. Records are entered into our software program, so good computer skills and a high level of attention to detail is required.
We are seeking applications from people with a wide range of administration skills to assist with the smooth running of the business. Experience in Logistics, Dispatch and general office skills (answering phones, data entry and recruitment support) will be highly regarded. Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, the ability to work under pressure and relevant experience will assist you in securing one of these roles.
Production Line Cleaners
Duties include cleaning our production equipment at the end of each day. Hours will be from late afternoon into the evening. Must be reliable, reasonably fit and have good attention to detail. Experience in plant and equipment cleaning would be advantageous. Training will be provided.
The Covid Marshal is a new and key role in ensuring a high level of compliance with our CovidSafe Plan and Safe Work practices in the Packhouse and to encourage feedback from staff on how to improve safety in the workplace. To be successful in the role we are seeking applications from people who are great at building relationships with staff whilst ensuring that policies, procedures and safe work practices are being adhered to:
- maintaining team bubbles (preventing mixing with other teams),
- Completing daily sign-in and sign-out requirements,
- Correct use of PPE
- Adherence to social distancing standards for the Packhouse,
- Maintaining a high level of hygiene
- Constantly looking for ways to improve
As a linguistically diverse workforce, a second language would be advantageous. If you are a person who likes to build positive relationships whilst achieving a high level of compliance, we’d like to hear from you.
The following roles are available at our Orchards which are located in Alexandra, Yarck, Boho and Cobram.
Cherries are all picked by hand with pickers wearing picking buckets and climbing ladders to reach the fruit, so a good level of health and fitness is required. Cherry picking is paid per lug.
Hats, sunscreen, long sleeves and water bottles are recommended. Cherries are picked from daybreak, finishing before extreme afternoon heat.
Pickup Crew-PDA Operators-Pickup Driver
The Pickup Crew role requires a good level of strength and fitness as it requires collecting and tipping lugs of cherries into larger bins. You must be good at working within a team.
The PDA Operator role involves scanning picker ID cards from lugs into our software program. Working accurately and being good with numbers is highly desirable.
To apply for the Pickup Driver role you must be experienced in driving a ute and trailer as you will be required to deliver fruit from the orchard to the Packhouse. Must have a current drivers licence.
